Manufacturing Engineer Manager
Main purpose of the job
Responsible for organising, managing and developing the Manufacturing Engineering team to ensure that the operational team is supported in full and to the expected quality and output standards, and New Product Launch is fully supported with the specification and procurement of equipment / process in a timely manner.
Main missions and results
Technical / NPI
1. Propose & introduce best practice manufacturing technology not exclusive to injection moulding.
2. Drive, track and monitor continuous improvement activities with KPI’s relating to cost saves.
3. Supply Manufacturing Engineering support for trials both on and off site as required.
4. Ensure New Equipment Acceptance Trials are completed and documented in line with New Program requirements.
5. Liaise with all Artifex departments and customers assisting with feasibilities for Change Management, New Product Introduction and Problem resolution forums.
6. Ensure all Manufacturing Engineers take an active role within NPI and Launch teams.
7. Lead all Manufacturing Engineering activities from Process Flow, Layout, Equipment Specification through to timely introduction, whilst observing the Artifex Manufacturing Readiness Process.
Managing Performance and Development
1. Ensure that the team understands and adheres to Artifex rules and policies and ensure that the rules are applied fairly and consistently.
2. Develop KPI standards to manage the department against and ensure that the team receives regular updates with regards to their performance against these targets.
3. Maintain and coordinate the Training Matrices and ensure that all relevant certification and qualifications are up to date and refreshers arranged in good time.
4. Ensuring that all team members are fulfilling the requirements of their role on a day-to-day basis and taking action to address any shortfalls.
5. Develop KPI standards and ensure that all processes are optimised to ensure that planned volumes are delivered on time, in full and to the required quality standard.
6. Report all relevant KPI data to the relevant recipients keeping all data and information fact based without emotion and supposition.
Health and Safety
1. Proactively promote behavioural safety, hazard spotting and safe working practices.
2. Act as an ambassador for positive Health & Safety activity amongst the peer group.
3. Has knowledge of Artifex procedures regarding health and safety at work, incident reporting, EHS screening, actions taken by EHS coordinators and EHS committees.
4. Has knowledge of Artifex procedures regarding environmental protection.
Continuous Improvement
1. Understands and can explain the benefits of CI methodologies and the importance of the processes towards loss reduction and performance improvements.
2. Drives, supports and actively participates in Kaizen events throughout a variety of areas across the site.
Quality
1. Lead by assisting 8D’s / Investigations into Quality issues and deliver robust corrective actions.
2. Ensure awareness and understanding of the quality standards.
3. Adopt a proactive approach to Quality so that issues are identified and dealt with at the earliest opportunity.
4. Ensure equipment and processes are designed to build quality into the products and detect / remove issues at an early stage.
5. Understands functional relevant clauses within IATF16949.
Communication and Relationships
1. Can balance when to discuss and when to tell.
2. Engages the team, finds common ground and encourages two-way conversations.
3. Ensures that all communication is relevant and tailored to suit the occasion and audience.
4. Spend time getting to know the team and understand that this is value adding activity.
5. Recognise team achievements and acknowledge good performance together with addressing any shortfalls in performance.
6. Ensure that the relationship with peers and subordinates are appropriate and established on a mutual respect and performance led basis.
Preferred skills and experience
Essential
1. Numerate and literate to minimum O Level / GCSE “C” or equivalent.
2. NVQ Level 3+ (or equivalent) in Injection Moulding and Process Conditioning.
3. Computer literate with Microsoft packages.
4. Management of a multi-skilled team of Manufacturing Engineers preferably within an FMCG environment.
5. Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools with demonstrable results.
6. Influencing and persuasive style with motivational and coaching approach to team.
7. Focused on Health and Safety and continuous improvement.
8. “Can Do” attitude with propensity to problem solve.
Desirable
1. Degree level education within a Managerial / Engineering focused discipline.
2. Management of a diverse team within an Automotive Unionised environment.
3. Trained to a Green Belt Six Sigma level.
4. Experience of leading CI projects and initiatives.
