Working as a Support Officer within the Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse team, you will be making a difference in victims' life, being of support and help during both criminal and misconduct investigations and re-building public trust in policing. You will be required to work to high professional standards, with absolute integrity and professionalism, to be trusted with information and Operational Security.
Job Purpose
Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
1.Provide appropriate support for victims during both criminal and misconduct investigation, completing risk assessments, and formulating a victim strategy where required, and working with the PSD investigator and Victim Care Unit, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the victim.
2.Ensure Victim Contracts and detailed OELs are completed at the earliest opportunity post charge and ensure relevant court paperwork is produced in timely manner.
3.To inform and guide discussions with victims with regards to bail conditions, VPS, Special Measures and Restraining Orders, completing any relevant documentation and sharing with other agencies and OIC as appropriate.
4.Understand the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme process and regularly review investigations to identify opportunities and complete relevant paperwork when necessary.
5.Liaise with Witness Care Unit and PSD BST Meetings and Hearings Coordinator with regards to victims attending court and hearings who require additional practical support e.g. Child care, travel and accommodation. WCO to arrange.
6.Attend DV Court to provide a response to issues raised by the Crown Prosecution Service and to facilitate the victim giving evidence.
7.If victim withdraws support then in cases of High Risk cases arrange for retraction statement to be taken and deploy with an IDVA if practicable to support and encourage victim to engage in CJ and internal police disciplinary processes.
