ROLE SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated University Counsellor for our International Section to support and guide students in their academic journey and college application processes. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore their potential, providing personalised advice to help them navigate university options in Portugal, Europe and internationally. This role is integral to fostering student success and ensuring a supportive and strategic approach to university preparation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions to assess students' academic, extracurricular, and personal backgrounds. Develop tailored college admission plans based on each student’s strengths and goals.
* Assist students in researching and evaluating college and university options, including academic programs, campus culture, and financial aid opportunities.
* Support students in compiling application materials, including transcripts, letters of recommendation, essays, and resumes.
* Advise on subject selection and extracurricular activities that align with students' future aspirations.
* Provide guidance on standardized testing requirements, preparation strategies, and registration procedures for exams such as the SAT and ACT, as needed.
* Organise and facilitate college visits, workshops, and information sessions for students and families from grades 8 to 12 about the college admissions process.
* Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents / guardians, and external stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and supportive approach to college counselling.
* Build strong relationships with universities, admissions officers, and scholarship organizations.
* Stay updated on trends and developments in college admissions, including changes in application requirements, admission policies, and financial aid programs.
* Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and application deadlines.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
* A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
* Extensive knowledge and a successful track record in admissions counselling, standardized testing, and financial aid for top-tier universities internationally.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with diverse students, families, and university stakeholders.
* Strong writing, editing, organizational, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
* Commitment to promoting equity and access in the college admissions process.
* Familiarity with counselling software systems and technology tools for college counselling.
* Certification or licensure in counselling or a related field is a plus.
* Knowledge or experience of working with universities in Portugal is also an advantage.
