About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Associate or Director of Ecology to take on a key leadership role within our client’s Ecology team. This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical background who can mentor and develop consultants and graduates while supporting the wider team in securing and delivering projects they are passionate about. You will play a crucial role in managing and delivering complex projects, from inception and bidding through to consultation, planning documentation, and final approvals. Key responsibilities include preparing Ecological Impact Assessments, EIA Chapters, BNG Assessments, Mitigation Strategies, Management Plans, and Method Statements. Experience in or an interest in pursuing Expert Witness work is highly desirable. Given the nature of the projects, experience in ornithology and Habitats Regulations Assessments would also be an advantage. What We’re Looking For To be considered for this role, you must have: At least 8 years of experience working as an ecologist A proactive approach to technical leadership and mentoring within the ecology team Confidence in managing large, complex projects and liaising with clients, statutory bodies, and LPAs A degree in ecology, biological sciences, or a related field Strong field survey skills, including extended Phase 1, protected species surveys, and/or botanical surveys (with at least one license or specialism) A solid understanding of legislative and planning policy frameworks Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience reviewing reports and documents Experience in EIA/HRA/protected species licensing (Expert Witness and ornithological HRA experience desirable) Full membership of CIEEM, or Chartered Ecologist status (or working towards it) A full UK driving license Why Join?
