The Role The V&A's Legacy team is responsible for raising income from gifts in Wills and in-memory giving. The legacy programme generates significant funds to support the work of the V&A every year, as well as receiving numerous bequests of objects to join the museum’s collections. Following recent additional investment from the Executive Board, this is an exciting time to join the Legacy team, with legacy giving being a key pillar of the V&A’s Development strategy. The Senior Legacies Officer is integral to the Legacies team of three. This is an opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of legacy fundraising, including marketing, legacy administration and stewardship. The postholder takes responsibility for general team administration and manages the legacy pipeline; supports the Legacies Manager with our programme of legacy marketing and events; and works with the Head of Legacy Giving on legacy administration, liaising with curators and executors on all object bequests. Legacy administration: To manage the administration of legacy gifts, with full responsibility for managing object bequests in liaison with curatorial staff. To support the Head of Legacy Giving with financial gifts, taking on an individual caseload following training or depending on experience. To deal with curatorial, financial and legal issues, liaising with executors and ensuring that all parties receive excellent stewardship. Supporter enquiries: To act as the first point of contact for legacy enquiries, both internal and external, responding with authority, sensitivity and diplomacy, so that legacy enquirers and intenders choose to leave the Museum a gift in their Will. Relationship management: To take responsibility for a portfolio of legacy pledgers in our legacy circle ‘the Henry Cole Circle’, deepening relationships and offering excellent stewardship to ensure that legacy pledgers feel valued by the V&A and their pledge is retained. To create and circulate the regular Henry Cole Circle e-newsletter. Team administration: To provide efficient delivery of our legacy programme, including creating guestlists, managing invitation responses, managing correspondence and mailings, working with Development Operations to ensure payments are processed correctly and ensuring activity is accurately recorded on the CRM. Event management: To work with the Legacies Manager on devising an inspiring legacy events programme: planning, scheduling and delivering legacy events in the museum in liaison with the Museum Events team, managing logistics, ensuring events run smoothly on the day and initiating postevent follow-up. Marketing: To support the Legacies Manager in planning and delivering a programme of marketing and advertising to promote legacy giving and grow our pipeline of legacy supporters; contributing to campaign strategy development; producing marketing materials; and providing editorial and copywriting support. Record keeping: To keep accurate and up-to-date records of all legacy activity on the CRM database and in shared files. Data insight: To provide useful data insight and analysis for the Head of Legacy Giving and other colleagues, producing regular statistical, qualitative and financial reports of legacy activity.
