Job Title: Estimator (Civil Engineering)

Thorn Baker are working with a successful and well-established groundworks contractor specializing in civil engineering, excavation, foundations, drainage, and associated services. Operating across the Southwest UK, they work on a diverse range of projects including commercial, and industrial developments. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a highly skilled Groundworks Estimator to join our team and support the business in delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.
As a Groundworks Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately assessing, pricing, and preparing tenders for groundworks projects across the Southwest region. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and the senior management team to ensure the successful delivery of bids and cost-effective solutions for our clients.

Your Responsibilities:
Review tender documentation, including drawings, specifications, and client requirements, to understand the full scope of works.
Prepare detailed cost estimates and provide accurate pricing for groundworks packages including excavations, foundations, drainage, roads, and external works.
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to gather necessary quotes and information for pricing.
Analyse site conditions and potential risks to ensure accurate costings.
Prepare detailed and accurate cost breakdowns, bills of quantities, and scope of works for submission to clients.
Conduct value engineering exercises to offer cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
Monitor and review project budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities during the tender and execution phases.
Required Skills:
Proven experience as an Estimator within the groundworks or civil engineering sector.
Strong understanding of groundworks operations, including excavation, drainage, foundations, and infrastructure works.
Proficient in using estimating software (e.g., Candy, Causeway, or similar).
Excellent numeracy and attention to detail with a focus on delivering accurate estimates.
Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients, subcontractors, and team members effectively.
Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and meet deadlines.
A good understanding of local building regulations and construction industry standards in the UK.
A relevant qualification in construction or civil engineering (e.g., HNC, HND, or degree) is desirable but not essential.
