Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Clinical Biochemistry Department of our ISO15189:2022 accredited laboratory at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. We provide diagnostic and monitoring services to patients across a wide geographical area and support our acute services across both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole General Hospital within the Trust.

The Successful Applicant Will:
* Act in a scientific role in the analysis of blood, body fluids, tissues and cells using specialised laboratory equipment to determine the presence or absence of disease, enabling diagnosis and also to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
* Be responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a clinical pathology service that enables high standards of patient care.
* Act as a deputy to the section leader (band 7 BMS).
* Assist in the teaching and development of trainee staff and support workers.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
Participation in the out of hours rota is expected.
Qualifications:
* Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registration
* Honours degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
* Completion of IBMS Registration Portfolio
Experience:
* HCPC registration experience
* Current experience within UKAS accredited laboratory
Skills:
* Practical skills associated with Good Laboratory Practice.
* Ability to provide specialist clinical training and education in practice
* Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills
* Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and database software
Personal Attributes:
* Able to work autonomously and as a team member.
