The Transpennine Route Upgrade is a major investment to be made in the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield. TRU is a multi-billion-pound, transformative, long-term railway infrastructure programme that will improve connectivity in the North. It will support economic growth in the North and deliver real benefits for passengers and communities along this pivotal rail artery.
Your mission
As a Section Engineer you will promote and deliver civil engineering excellence on the project.
Key tasks include:
1. Communicating effectively at all levels including site management, technical specialists, commercial staff, planners, engineers, supervisory staff operatives, suppliers, third parties and client representatives.
2. Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in health and safety.
3. Maintaining high standards in environmental awareness and behaviour.
4. Driving quality delivery through effective planning and right first time delivery.
5. Supervising and mentoring assistant, trainee engineering and technician staff.
6. Monitoring and recording delivery against the agreed programme and construction methods.
7. Formally requesting any missing information in sufficient time to meet the programme.
8. Ensuring that works are accurately and clearly set out before work commences.
9. Completing daily diary records and ensuring they are also being maintained by others under your supervision.
10. Assisting in preparing "look ahead" programmes in conjunction with the supervisory staff, coordinated with overall site programme.
11. Identifying, recording and reporting change to the scope of works or programme.
12. Ensuring that testing/sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
Who are we looking for?
1. Ensuring work records are being kept and in line with the project requirements.
2. Providing accurate setting out for works before work is programmed to commence, allowing time for independent checking.
3. Arranging formal checking of setting out and ensuring check request form is completed.
4. Ensuring that material delivery tickets are passed to the section engineer for cost coding.
5. Carrying out site measures for control and ordering of materials.
6. Taking receipt of materials and checking description, quantity, markings and condition before signing for receipt.
7. Ensuring that comprehensive records of all resources employed on additional works are maintained and submitted for signature within 24 hours of the work being carried out.
8. Completing Observation cards if you observe something unsafe, damaging to the environment or good enough.
