We are looking to appoint a Democratic Services and Governance Officer (DSGO) to join our high performing Democratic Services and Scrutiny Team in the London Borough of Croydon.
The DSGO role is based in a small team responsible for delivering an efficient Democratic Services function, ensuring these areas run smoothly, effectively and support the wider goals of the organisation.
We are looking for someone with:
1. An understanding of the democratic process involved in local government
2. Great administrative and organisation skills with strong attention to detail and can complete multiple tasks to a high standard.
3. The relevant experience to support and act as representative of the service at meetings of Committees and Sub-Committees.
Key responsibilities for the position holder will be to do the following under the support and direction of Senior Officers in the team:
4. Draft agendas and minutes of meetings and ensure they are published at the appropriate time and in accordance with relevant statutory deadlines.
5. Attend meetings as the representative of the service where Councillors / Members are present.
6. Confidently advise the Chair of meetings on the running of the meeting and interpretation of local government regulations and the Council’s Procedure Rules.
7. Monitor and record decisions of Committees and Sub-Committees to ensure they are made correctly and are compliant with local government laws and regulations
8. Facilitate the webcasting of Council and Committee meetings.
9. Assist the Democratic Service Team with administrative tasks as required
There is additionally a general responsibility across the team to support each other within the team and service as a whole.
