The opportunity Are you a visionary and strategic leader with a passion for property development? British Heart Foundation (BHF), the largest charity retailer in the UK, is looking for a dynamic Head of Property Development to join our senior leadership team. We operate over 680 stores, including Home stores and High Street shops, with the support of more than 3,500 staff and 17,000 volunteers. Our mission is to generate over £30m in profit annually, welcoming over 60 million visits to our shops and stores each year. About the role As our Head of Property Development, you'll be a key part of our senior leadership team and will play a crucial role in overseeing our Retail estate's growth and development. You’ll lead a high-performance building and maintenance team, setting clear objectives and ensuring all safety and professional standards are met. Your responsibilities will include: Setting the strategic direction for the Property Development team and aligning it with the overall Retail Strategy. Managing an annual budget of over £10m to maintain and develop our retail shops, stores, and key offices. Overseeing the development, refurbishment, maintenance, and lease exit strategies for our retail estate Ensuring compliance with all safety and professional standards Collaborating with various departments to drive out costs and eliminate waste without compromising quality Working arrangements The team operate a hybrid working practice with regular national travel, allowing you to work flexibly from our offices in Northampton and London and your home. About you We are looking for a resilient and effective leader able to collaborate with others. With excellent interpersonal and influencing skills you’ll build strong working relationships with stakeholders across BHF and externally. You’ll have extensive experience in all key aspects of traditional building surveying disciplines, including acquisition surveys, defect analysis, building pathology, dilapidations, fit-out design, and contract administration. To be successful in this role you'll have: A professional building/construction management qualification (MRICS, MCIOB). Extensive experience in traditional building surveying disciplines, ideally with a focus on retail estates. Proven experience in the management and delivery of ongoing new shop expansion A track record of managing and delivering significant and complex budgets Good levels of computer literacy with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD LT Excellent leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills A 'can-do' attitude and resilience under pressure.
