KEY OBJECTIVES
* To be accountable for the overall management of the Childrens Home
* To ensure the delivery of a safe, effective child-centre service to young people.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY
* To maintain and review the systems that ensure the homes continued registration with Care and Social Services Inspectorate of Wales.
* To promote a performance management culture, which continually improves the services for the benefit of the young people receiving mid to long term placements
* To take responsibility for personal and professional development by: making positive use of supervision: maintaining and developing knowledge of good practice, research findings and legislation.
* To provide managerial and professional leadership to staff.
* To promote the development of team members skills and knowledge and assist in the training of team members and other staff as appropriate.
* To maintain and review the system for staff supervision, induction and appraisal, in line with care standards.
* To be responsible for the day-to-day financial systems within the home.
* To ensure that systems are in place and monitored that ensure the home meets regulatory and legal requirements regarding Health and Safety, providing a safe environment for both young people and staff.
* To be responsible for ensuring that the home is appropriately staffed to meet the needs of the young people placed and regulatory requirements.
* To ensure an environment is provided within the home that is sensitive to the needs of individual young people taking into account their race, culture, language, religion.
* To be responsible for ensuring that the young people have access to a range of activities both within the home and in the wider community, which promote independence, self esteem and maximise potential.
* To be responsible for monitoring and reviewing the service provided to ensure it meets the needs of the young people, and the aims and objectives laid out in placement plans.
* To be responsible for planning and organising a training programme for staff.
* To assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
* To promote consultation with young people and their parents/carers to develop means whereby their views can inform practice, policies and the development of good standards.
* To promote team development and team working.
* To contribute to the development of corporate policies, procedures and service initiatives, aimed at improving the service provided by Stepping Stones Care (Wales) Ltd.
* To ensure that all staff read and understand the company’s policies and procedures.
* To ensure that all staff understand and implement the company’s Child Protection procedures.
* To ensure that there is a Statement of Purpose in place, which is appropriate to the needs of the young people, that it is reviewed regularly and signed.
* To ensure that sufficient back up resources are available in emergency/out of hours situations, including participation in an out of hours ‘On Call’ rota.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as required by the Head of Children’s and Residential Services commensurate with the grade of the post.
Note: This post is non-residential, but the post holder may be required to be part of a management rota providing out of hours support for the company.

EXPEREINCE
5 Years experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting, within the last 10 years, with 2 of those years at a supervisory level.
