Protocol Education is currently recruiting for Support Workers to work with children with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) and SEND needs in a school in BS30.
The school is a Primary School that also provides alternative provision for students with SEND and SEMH who are unable to access mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Your role will include that of a Mentor/Support Worker, supporting their SEMH and SEND specific needs, well-being, and academic abilities in a structured and adapted curriculum. The majority of students have Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs), and as a key support worker, you will contribute and work together with the student to achieve their targets and offer purposeful, engaging, and fun activities and lessons that progress each individual student and challenge them appropriately.
The school is looking for someone with previous school experience or who has worked in a supportive role, such as a support worker, youth worker, teaching assistant, carer, intervention tutor, or similar. The school is also keen to speak to people with ex-army, ex-prison officer, ex-counsellor, or sports coach backgrounds.
This role is ideal for someone seeking to gain valuable classroom experience prior to embarking on a teaching career or a great opportunity for any graduates seeking a bold new career change.
The Role:
1. Working closely with the staff team, specifically teachers, to contribute to students' EHCPs and individual needs academically and socially.
2. Plan and deliver interventions alongside the teacher.
3. Support in managing the behaviour of pupils while they undertake their work, ensuring a constructive and positive environment is always enforced.
4. Drive required as there will be collection and drop-offs (mileage covered).
5. De-escalate situations within the classroom correctly, certifying that safeguarding procedures are always adhered to.
6. Report any safeguarding concerns using the school’s referral procedures and safeguarding policies.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
