We are looking for a Meter Reader to join our hard working and friendly Taunton team to obtain and verify water meter readings for Bristol Water and Wessex Water. Living locally and having knowledge of Cheddar and Wedmore and the surrounding area would be ideal as you will mainly work in the Mid Somerset area. What you'll do You will be taking and accurately recording data from water meters to an agreed schedule or on an appointment basis. The meter reading round walk will vary, one day you may be reading several meters in a built-up area and the next covering larger distances in more remote areas, you will also conduct empty property inspections to identify unregistered customers and support them to set up an account. You will represent us to everyone you meet, recognising signs of customer vulnerability, and provide a high level of service signposting our customers to further support when needed. You will work in all weather conditions to set targets and will be on your own for most of the time. The role involves lots of movement, bending, lifting, and moving debris like cobwebs, muck, and vegetation out of the way to gain access to what you need whilst ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the public and yourself at all times. We will provide a vehicle, mobile phone, personal protective equipment, uniform and all the tools you need to do the job. We also operate an innovative lone worker system' to always keep you safe. Our full-time roles are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday normally starting at 08:00 and finishing at 16:00. Ideally you will be able to assess and manage risks associated with a field-based role, recognise ways to improve efficiency and can organise and prioritise your own workload. To be considered for this role you will need to live in and have a familiarity of the Mid Somerset area as well as holding a full UK driving licence.
