The role in brief:
The Women’s Pathway Coach is a new role which will strengthen the coaching provision for players currently progressing through the Harlequins Women’s Pathway. The successful candidate will work closely with the Surrey University Head Coach & Pathway Manager to deliver technical and tactical coaching to identified/targeted pathway players transitioning to the Harlequins senior team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Harlequins women’s coaching and staffing group.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Lead on the coaching planning and delivery of backs and attack play for the University of Surrey Women’s Performance Rugby Programme.
* Assist in the delivery of the wider game model coaching as directed by the Head Coach (squad, small group skills, 1-to-1 sessions).
* Deliver review and preview meetings focused on backs and attack play for the University of Surrey Women’s Performance Rugby Programme.
* Assist with the selection of the team and the feedback process to players.
* Support the University of Surrey Head Coach in delivering a high-quality performance environment, staying true to our culture of performance, care and enjoyment.
* Assist with individual development plans for selected players as agreed with the Surrey University Head Coach & Pathway Manager.
* Work closely with the wider Harlequins Women’s Programme staff including but not limited to; medical, strength & conditioning and analysis to best support the university programme and players.
* Assist the Surrey University Head Coach & Pathway Manager and the Head of Women’s Rugby in the management and transition of U18 players, liaising with the player development group leads, schools, parents and players.
* Support with the identification and recruitment of U18 players to Harlequins Women and/or the University of Surrey, attending England U18, Player Development Group and Worthing College games to identify players who have the potential to play for Harlequins Women in the future.
* Support the Worthing College Programme Lead with the delivery of the programme, including squad, small group skills, 1-to-1 sessions at Worthing College.
* Support the identification and recruitment of U16 players to Worthing College.
* Lead on ad hoc pathway projects as directed by the Surrey University Head Coach & Pathway Manager.
The Skills, Experience and Qualifications needed:
* RFU Level 3 Coaching qualification (or currently working towards one).
* Be able to demonstrate detailed tactical and technical knowledge of rugby union.
* Experience of delivering in a performance OR development rugby environment.
* Have detailed knowledge and understanding of player development and how to best support the development process.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills.
* Proactive and diligent approach to developing the Harlequins Women pathway.
* Experience of recruiting players to a team or organisation. (Desirable)
* Experience of ACE college and university rugby. (Desirable)
* Knowledge of pathway, domestic and international women’s rugby. (Desirable)
