Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen within The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) NHS Foundation Trust. This is a new post, complementing the five existing Consultants in Knee and Sports Injury Surgery at Oswestry.
All Knee conditions are treated including developmental disorders; sports injuries (both amateurs and professionals); traumatic knee injuries and degenerative joint disease.
We are seeking a surgeon who is fully trained in the generality of knee surgery who has undertaken a fellowship (of 12 month duration) within the area of special interest.
The successful applicant will be entered on the GMC's Specialist Register for T&O via CCT /CESR (CP)/European Community Rights (proposed CCT/CESR (SP) date must be within 6 months of interview).
Main Duties of the Job
The appointee will have a responsibility for the running of their clinical service, integrating this with the department as a whole and ensuring appropriate communication with general practitioners, managers and hospital committees. The appointee will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of relevant aspects of the Trust's contractual obligations and business plans.
The appointee will be expected to ensure their clinical service is in accordance with the principles of Clinical Governance which must include appropriate clinical audit, clinical targets, KPIs, evidence based practice, and continued personal educational and professional development. Take responsibility for your own continuing professional education/development in accordance with guidelines set out by the appropriate college or professional body. Maintain knowledge and skills in relevant areas of professional responsibility; safeguard professional standards of conduct and practice.

Job Responsibilities
A full time Knee surgeon at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital will be part of the Knee and Sports injury team. Referrals are received for patients with knee problems in all age groups including tertiary referrals. A comprehensive service is provided to match the increasing demand in this field and the unit has a reputation for innovation and development of this specialty. We currently carry out soft tissue/knee procedures such as meniscal and cruciate ligament surgery; autologous chondrocyte implantation and meniscal replacement/transplant. We also undertake osteotomies around the knee, unicompartmental knee replacement, patellofemoral surgery, and primary/revision knee arthroplasty. The hospital is equipped with a cell culture laboratory and has ongoing cartilage regeneration research projects.

Qualifications Essential
* Full GMC registration: registered with the GMC with licence to practice with no restrictions and currently practicing clinician
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for T&O via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview CESR or European Community Rights

* Higher degree e.g. MD Ph.D
Experience/ Specialist Knowledge Essential
* Fully trained in the generality of knee surgery and able to develop a sub-speciality interest
* All round Orthopaedic experience
* Fellowship in area of special interest 12 months minimum post entry onto the specialist register

* 12 Months + subspecialty fellowship training
* Independent surgical practice in core Knee procedures (ACL/TKR/UKR)
* Subspecialist interest in patellofemoral surgery
* Experience of robotic knee arthroplasty
