The Department of Clinical Photography and Illustration (DCPI), based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, is pleased to offer this exciting opportunity to cover maternity cover and be a part of our experienced and motivated team.
To provide professional support to the DCPI, contributing to the delivery of a day-to-day operational cost effective and efficient service including clinical photography, non-clinical photography, video, and illustration (graphic design), to the Trust and other allied agencies. You will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on-call service.

Main duties of the job
The Clinical Photographer supports all clinical specialties including Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Oral Surgery, ENT, and Paediatrics (including sudden infant death and non-accidental injury), taking photographs in the studio, operating theatres, mortuary, outpatient clinics, and on the wards. Illustration (graphic design) and video have now become a major part of the DCPI's remit, and the Clinical Photographer will be expected to fully participate in this work using industry standard software e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Post-Graduate Certificate in Clinical Photography or equivalent.
* To be registered as a Medical Illustrator on the AHCS Register (Academy for Healthcare Science).
* Ability to travel between sites.
* Professional Member of the Institute of Medical Illustrators.
Previous Experience
* Relevant experience in clinical photography.
* Relevant experience in non-clinical photography.
* Relevant experience in graphic design.
* Relevant experience in video.
Skills
* Competent in all aspects of clinical, non-clinical photography, and graphic design.
* Advanced keyboard and computer skills (desktop publishing, word processing, database systems for clinical photography, spreadsheet creation, and image manipulation).
* Flexible in order to prioritize workload and respond to urgent requests e.g. theatre calls, meeting the needs of the service.
* Empathy to patients when dealing with sensitive issues e.g. child abuse and when obtaining images of an intimate nature.
* Good communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
* Committed to producing the highest quality clinical photography to agreed national protocols (IMI guidelines), departmental guidelines, and an agreement to undertake any additional study to maintain CPD and the upkeep of their professional registration.
* Competent in video.
* Competent in the use of Waba MIM (Trust's Medical Image Management System) WMP (Trust's clinical photography mobile applications).
Knowledge
* Fully conversant in all aspects of relevant and current legislation, including patient confidentiality/consent, Data Protection, Child Protection, Access to Health Records, and the Freedom of Information Act.
* Good knowledge of digital photography, video, and graphic design.
* Good knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy.
