Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthetics
This post is for a locum post for a period of six months. It is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. This post will be offered with a six-month contract.
This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric anaesthetic team at the Leeds Children's hospital (LGI site) in Leeds.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in the FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in paediatric anaesthesia and have undertaken at least 12 months advanced training in this area. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
1. To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive Anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
2. To develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
3. To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust.
4. To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.
5. To participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
6. To contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds.
7. To collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.
8. To contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.

The posts will be based at the Leeds General Infirmary or St James's University Hospital depending upon service need and candidates' skills and experience. Requirements of the Post
General Training and Qualifications
The appointee must hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK. Applicants should have completed a recognised training programme in Anaesthesia.
Experience
The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of anaesthesia and appropriate experience in paediatric anaesthesia. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.
Clinical Audit
The appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following:
1. Mortality and morbidity meetings;
2. Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines.
Teaching
The Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
Job Plan and Working Arrangements
The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
Person Specification
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills
* Should have completed at least 12 months in a recognised training programme in paediatric anaesthesia.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
Qualifications
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: - CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR (or) European Community Right.
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
