Job overview
The aim of the undergraduate education role centres around the development and delivery of teaching to year 6 medical students undertaking apprenticeship based rotation in medicine, with support from the module leads. There are shared educational duties such as but not limited to being an examiner in UCL medical school exams and helping to organise and deliver UCL medical school assessments with a network of Barnet clinical teaching fellows. Fellows are also expected to provide support to medical students in Barnet Hospital during term time when not scoping at Chase Farm Hospital. The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is a central University College London (UCL) Medical School campus that teaches hundreds of medical students, at all stages of learning, every year across Barnet, Chase Farm and the Royal Free Hospitals.
This role will suit enthusiastic and motivated Gastroenterology trainees with an interest in education and will provide excellent clinical and educational experience for the progression of a career within Gastroenterology. It is a new and flexible post which offers the opportunity to be involved with undergraduate teaching, curriculum development and student assessment, while also maintaining core clinical skills. Minimum Experience in gastroenterology at IMT3 level is desired although candidates without prior experience may also be considered.
Main duties of the job
* Work with the module leads to ensure that the student timetable offers breadth of experience and balance of learning activities.
* Run an induction session at the start of each block.
* Provide bedside teaching sessions, case-based discussion groups and simulation/clinical skills sessions.
* Encourage and support junior doctors to deliver high quality 'on-the-job' clinical teaching - this will include a presentation at junior doctor induction and supporting timetabled junior doctor led teaching sessions.
* Work with the medical education administrators to co-ordinate formal teaching sessions including recruiting colleagues to deliver sessions.
* Collect, analyse, and act on feedback from students.
* Be involved in preparations for UCL medical school assessments.
* Attend relevant meetings with the Barnet education team and the UCLMS year 4 team.
* Appraising the module 4A/B placement at Barnet.
