FINTEC recruit is seeking a Junior Software Engineer for our UK astronomy client who works with customers globally, utilizing some of the world's largest telescopes. This is a permanent position suited to a recent graduate with some software experience, either from employment or as part of a degree course. 'On the job training' will be provided to further develop in the role. You will be working with a talented team of scientists and software engineers for a unique and expanding business.
The role offers hybrid working, with 40% of the time spent in the Dunfermline, Fife office. Initially, you will be working full time in the office, reverting to hybrid following the probationary term. Salary is £25,000 to £35,000 plus private medical healthcare, contributory pension, and other benefits. There will be some international travel to client facilities within Europe and Chile.
Responsibilities:
* Involved in developing software that controls telescopes and instruments used in astronomy as well as ‘big science’ projects.
* Specialise in design, implementation, and maintenance of software for applications used by astronomical observatories and accelerator facilities.
Skills and Qualifications required for the Junior Software Engineer role:
* Experience or training in developing scientific or technical software applications in a Linux environment with C++, C, or a scripting language (e.g., Python).
* A background in physics/astronomy and experience of control or real-time software would be an advantage, either from a degree course or from employment.
* First degree or higher (Masters/Doctoral) degree.
