Group Health, Safety and Environment Officer
Responsibilities:
Co-ordinate the reduction of our carbon impact through environmentally considerate operations, ensuring compliance and promoting initiatives across our business activities. Adherence to ISO 14001 UK Environmental Standards Compliance (and other relevant Standards).
Serve as the subject matter expert, being the accountable and responsible safety person, advising the organisation on how to be compliant with the relevant regulations, enforcing preventative measures. Co-ordination of activities within our subsidiary offices and EU warehouse facility.
Undertake site safety tours, inspections, engagement forums and audits on a regular basis, ensuring adherence to the relevant health & safety legislation.
Conduct regular checks for: fire alarm testing and evacuation procedures, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and fire exit doors, legionella water temperature.
Conduct Health Safety and Environment inductions for new joiners and contractors and participate in the identification of H&S training needs analysis throughout the organisation.
Provide safety management advice, monitoring and reporting in the workplace, and engaging staff in programs that ensure safe practice in the workplace.
Support the review of contractor RAMS and Risk Assessment statements, and take responsibility for the COSHH register, working with managers and staff to ensure risk assessments are completed.
Conduct investigations into safety incidents and monitoring safety performance (e.g. KPI dashboard).
Deliver reports for Board reviews.
Formulate, develop and review policies, procedures and other guidance necessary to ensure compliance, including the Company Environmental Policy.
Stay up to date with industry regulations and best practices, ensuring the Company's policies reflect current standards.
Responsibility for First Aiders and Fire Marshals within the organisation, ensuring all safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
Compliance with ESOS (The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) and ISO 50001 Energy Management.
Lead and support the development of the Company sustainability strategy.
Skills, Experience and Competencies:
Demonstrable experience in a similar role.
A relevant, up to date qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH either certificate or diploma, IOSH, or equivalent).
IEMA Certificate in environmental management is desirable.
Continuous Improvement experience (5S, Kaizen etc.,) is desirable.
Working knowledge of PUWER.
Knowledge of Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and accident investigation.
Experience in the Health & Safety supervision of site activities.
Computer literate and confident with the Microsoft suite.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
Decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
Strong organisational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Attention to detail in planning, execution, and follow-through.
Proven track record of achieving and exceeding goals and objectives.
Proactive, enthusiastic, and driven.
Flexibility to work beyond normal business hours when required.
Willingness and ability to travel to other sites, some of which are international, on a regular basis, so a valid passport is a requirement of this role.
