What you will do Building Systems UK is downstream business within Tata Steel UK. The business sells Building Solutions, products & processing services predominantly into the construction industry. The product range is the most diverse in the market place, with an offering including structural roof and flooring decks, built up systems, composite panels (foam), processed coil & sheets, flashings and associated products. Building Systems UK operates from a single manufacturing base in Shotton, North Wales. The product range includes built up systems, steel faced insulated panels, Roof decking, Composite floor decking, & flashings etc. The customer base of the business falls into three distinct areas; Manufacturers, Specifiers and Contractors. Different sales techniques are required and therefore the business development team focus upon the ‘specifier’ (Engineer & Architect) and Sales team who focus on the contractor, the ‘transaction’ Contracts. As a Process Chemist, you will play a pivotal role in providing full support to the company in terms of foam processing and chemistry in the production and testing of insulated composite panels. Your will be responsible for driving these key responsibilities: Responsible for fundamental chemical knowledge to support foam chemistry to ensure that the continuous production of PIR insulated sandwich panels fully meets existing and future quality and specification standards. Responsible for the complete traceability of PIR foam formulations, chemical constituents and product performance. To analyse production data and assist with/perform root cause analyses for high yield loss or product quality underperformance events. What you will need To succeed in this role, you should: Hold a Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or a similar subject. 5 years or more of experience in a similar field or involving manufacturing would be of benefit. Proficient with analytical techniques and laboratory practices along with statistical techniques to understand product behaviour at a molecular level and make judgement calls based on those findings. Analysis & Problem solving – Gathering appropriate information, breaking it down into smaller parts and planning to solve problems. Involving tracking the implications of situations in a logical step-by-step manner, drawing sound conclusions and developing plans of action. Ready to make a difference?
