JOB DESCRIPTION
HEAD GROUNDSMAN
GENERAL
Responsible for the Management of the Ground Maintenance team and the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds and arena at Lower Bolney Farm and associated estate properties, with the main emphasis on Polo related activities. To be overseen by the Estate & Polo Manager.
SPECIFICS
Polo Fields
1. Cutting, feeding, sanding and herbicide application.
2. Overseeing divot filling and irrigation. This includes all necessary hours worked during the season – late evening irrigation, call out irrigation and weekend field preparation.
3. Polo boards and goal post maintenance and all end of season preparation.
Paddocks and General Estate Maintenance
1. Feeding, harrowing, topping, over-seeding and herbicide application.
2. Polo outfields, banks, verges, ditch maintenance, tree pruning hedges.
3. Estate litter removal.
4. Estate properties’ lawns.
5. Assist Winter feeding of polo ponies.
Irrigation
1. Servicing, including winter drain-down and anti-freeze.
2. Metering for the Environment Agency.
Machinery Maintenance
1. All machinery to be maintained to the highest standard including tractors – overhaul, greasing, adjustment and painting as required.
Invoices/Annual Accounts
1. Checking and signing off all invoices relating to ‘Ground Maintenance’.
2. Assist in compiling Annual Ground Maintenance Report.
Personnel
1. Interviewing, training and supervising Ground Staff.
2. Recruitment and selection in conjunction with the Estate & Polo Manager.
3. Ensuring adequate cover when you or your staff are on holiday, and recording sick days.
Health & Safety
1. To ensure that you and your staff comply with all Health & safety regulations regarding machinery and the use of chemicals. Also, to ensure that all staff are fully aware for the correct procedures for using the train crossing.
2. Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures as laid out in the Company Health & Safety Manual.
Other
1. Any other task as directed by the Estate & Polo Manager.
2. Assist with duties not directly linked to your job description but commensurate with your position.
