Your New Position
As a Payroll Controller, your primary role is to ensure that our monthly payroll is processed, submitted, and paid on time. You will also provide the business with Management Information (MI) and reports relating to payroll and associated costs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage and process monthly payroll, pensions, benefits, third-party deductions, and activities for permanent employees.
2. Process all new starters and leavers, including adding and removing people from the company benefits portal.
3. Ensure the payroll platform is maintained and updated with salary changes, probationary periods, promotions, shift changes, flexible working requests, and other changes.
4. Input, calculate, and record maternity/paternity payments, holiday requests, SSP, and SMP.
5. Process HMRC submissions, including P45s, P60s, and P11Ds.
6. Manage Benefits in Kind (BIK) for company car users.
7. Administer the Auto-Enrolment Pension Scheme.
8. Interrogate the time and attendance system and produce various reports.
9. Monitor, report, and input sickness payments onto payroll.
10. Calculate wages and applicable deductions based on timesheet records.
11. Liaise with heads of departments prior to payroll submission to ensure all information is correctly captured at source.
12. Investigate, identify, and resolve discrepancies in timesheet logs and records.
13. Answer any staff questions about wages, deductions, attendance, and time records.
Requirements for Success:
1. Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
2. Experience with payroll systems such as Moorepay.
3. Experience managing payroll for a salaried and hourly paid workforce associated with shift work (e.g., 4 on 4 off, 5 on 3 off, days and nights).
4. Good, up-to-date understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
5. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
6. Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
7. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
10. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
