This is a key, organisation-wide role in developing and maintaining high standards of care for women with additional mental health needs in pregnancy and the postnatal period. Main duties of the job Have a high level of relevant expert knowledge and skills, which will be used to manage, develop and lead care for pregnant women and new mothers with additional mental health needs, regardless of their complexities Be responsible for providing extra support and care to some pregnant women with more complex mental health diagnosis, in partnership with their community midwife and their mental health support services Work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on individual needs. Provide a link between maternity service and external services involved in mental health care provision for women Ensure that the relevant pathways, policies and processes already in place for women with, or at risk of, mental illness are, implemented, audited and remain relevant and up-to-date. Be confident in working with a range of relevant professionals, services and agencies outside of the maternity setting. Support your colleagues through coordinating and providing training and guidance in maternal mental health for key maternity staff. Be an innovative practitioner and an effective change agent by promoting evidence based practice. Utilise excellent communication and highly developed interpersonal skills to enable co-ordinated team work in the delivery of efficient and effective perinatal MH services which are trauma informed.
