An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our current service within the surgical emergency assessment unit at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for a Band 5 nurse to join our team and support a 7-day service to acutely unwell surgical patients. The Cheerful Sparrows Female ward specializes in surgical and orthopedic care; therefore, some basic knowledge is recommended, however not essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical and professional skills within the CSF and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. You will care for a variety of surgical and orthopedic patients within the day and will be expected to be able to carry out nurse-led assessments of your patients and recognize a deteriorating patient. The acuity of the unit can change hourly, so it is important you are able to prioritize your workload effectively in order to keep yourselves and the patients safe.
You will also be required to assist your patients getting ready for theatre if they are required to have surgery and be able to care for them prior to their operation. You will be required to facilitate safe discharges if required and plan appropriate admissions to hospital.

We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families, and carers we care for every day.
Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programs are used, then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.
Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK, you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country.
