Debt Recovery Assistant
Salary: £30,032 - £37,841 (Scale 4 – Scale 6 (Bar 25))
Elmbridge Borough Council is committed to providing a first-class service to its customers and, in recognition of this commitment, we equip and fully train our officers to be true customer champions.
If you:
* have a positive “can do attitude,”
* enjoy dealing with a variety of people,
* are self-motivated,
* are resilient,
* and are a team player,
then this role within our debt recovery team might interest you!
We are looking for individuals with a positive and compassionate attitude to join our team, with primary responsibility for recovering monies owed to the Council across a wide range of services, such as council tax, non-domestic rates, Bids, housing benefit overpayments, and sundry debts.
Although predominantly based at the Council’s main office in Esher, this role does allow for the opportunity of working from home where operational needs of the service allow.
You will work alongside colleagues with a focus on collecting unpaid council tax and business rates in a fair and ethical manner from our residents and businesses. This will involve handling phone communication from customers to negotiate sustainable payment arrangements, dealing with written inquiries, emails, and face-to-face visits to the office. You will also liaise with external agencies and the Council’s enforcement agents, and will need the ability to communicate sensitively, with care and empathy, with a wide range of people throughout the Elmbridge Borough.
Ideally, you will have experience within a debt recovery environment, the confidence to manage difficult conversations, and refined negotiation skills to obtain the best outcome for all parties. However, if you have proven experience with members of the public through face-to-face, written communication, and on the telephone, full training will be provided.
