How you'll make a difference
As a skilled roadworker you will work with the supervisor to ensure resources are organised for contract compliance and to deliver a high quality highways maintenance and construction service, to meet the needs of our residents and keep our region safe. Based from our operating depot in Yate near Bristol, the highway maintenance team deliver civil engineering highway maintenance works across the whole network in the South Gloucestershire area.
What you will be doing
1. It will your responsibility to ensure that safe methods of work are always taken in the operation of plant and equipment, that the required PPE is used.
2. In the role you will prepare and carry out patch repairs on live carriageway, setting forms and laying precast concrete or natural stone kerbs, manhole construction, concreting, fencing, walling and slabbing.
3. You will also undertake general digging, labouring, and loading work including general snow clearance work when required.
4. On a daily basis you will operate small mechanical plant machinery used in the maintenance of highways, and it will be your responsibility to ensure that vehicle, plant and equipment checks are carried out, and that all vehicle, plant and equipment are kept in a clean condition.
5. You will ensure all materials and plant are requisitioned correctly through the central stores system and report defects to equipment and machinery without delay.
6. Work environment is mainly outdoors and will include working in inclement weather conditions as well as exposure to heat and noise.
What we need from you
1. You must be a New Roads and Street Works accredited operative and it is essential that you have a full UK driving licence.
2. We require you to have a minimum of 3 years recent relevant experience of highway maintenance and construction related work, in a similar commercial or public sector highways construction or maintenance role.
3. Experience and training in the use of small plant and machinery is required, such as abrasive wheel, dumpers, rollers, vibrating plate compactors, chainsaws and steel saws.
4. Physical activity is a dominant feature of this post requiring physical strength and endurance and you will also work outdoors in all environments and weather conditions including severe winter weather.
5. It would be desirable if you had a Category C1 driving licence.
What you need to know
1. You may be required to be available to be on-call at evenings and at weekends, on a rota basis, as workloads dictate.
2. Interviews will be held during week 14th April 2025.
