Your responsibilities
1. Provide technical support and advice to our assets in the area of power plant water-steam cycle chemistry and corrosion.
2. Carry out or contribute to water-steam cycle chemistry operational assessments relating to flexible operation, proposed plant upgrades, troubleshooting plant issues, etc.
3. Carry out or contribute to failure investigations, plant status review and due diligence activities related to water-steam cycle chemistry.
4. Plan, complete and assess boiler and steam turbine outage inspections for cycle chemistry related risks.
5. Periodically review and update company cycle chemistry engineering standards and guidelines.
6. Provide advice and guidance on power plant preservation and boiler chemical cleaning.
7. Possibility to provide operational support to our assets on demineralised water treatment plant, condensate polishing, wastewater treatment and cooling water treatment, depending on experience.
8. Contribute to the development of company competencies related to corrosion mechanisms, mitigations and requirements for carbon capture plant, hydrogen generation and low carbon fuels.
9. Take a role in customer relationship and business development opportunities across the Uniper generation fleet.
10. Work with Uniper’s UK and European assets and project teams.
Your profile
1. Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials or corrosion science.
2. To be, or have the pre-requisites to be, a chartered member of a relevant institution, or have an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
3. Relevant experience in the power industry or similar industrial applications.
4. Familiarity with power plant design and operating principles.
5. Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and deposition processes in steam-raising plant.
6. Knowledge of water-steam cycle chemical conditioning regimes and chemical dosing and monitoring requirements for steam-raising plant.
7. Knowledge of plant preservation regimes and chemical cleaning processes for steam-raising plant.
8. Knowledge of demineralised water treatment plant, condensate polishing, wastewater treatment and cooling water treatment for industrial applications would be desirable.
9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships.
10. Ability to work effectively and flexibly both individually and as part of a team, working away from home on occasion at sites both within the UK and overseas for typically short periods of time.
11. Ability to co-ordinate work across multi-disciplinary teams.
12. Positive approach to change and contributes to the culture of continuous improvement.
13. Ability to develop own skills and competencies in emerging areas.
14. Ability to plan and manage a portfolio of jobs to cost, quality and time.
15. Commercially aware; understanding the environment in which they operate, including wider business capabilities and requirements, and ability to recognise and take advantage of business opportunities.
16. Strong numerical and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail.
17. A high technical standard of written and spoken English, including report writing.
18. High level of IT literacy to support technical analysis.
