We are delighted to offer an excellent opportunity to join the University of Cambridge Security Section as a Chief Security Patroller.
Starting salary from approx. £30,055 to £33,303 (this figure is inclusive of a 25% additional salary supplement).
This is a permanent, contracted position with a regular shift pattern of 42 hours per week, including every second weekend off. The successful candidate will be required to work unsociable hours and weekends, and the role comes with a 25% salary supplement in recognition of these hours.
Our Security team plays a crucial role in safeguarding University properties, staff, and students. The team is responsible for alarm monitoring, uniformed patrols, and incident response across over 350 buildings on the University estate, as well as managing an extensive CCTV system. We ensure the safety and security of our historic buildings and provide comprehensive security services in collaboration with University departments, Colleges, and external partners.
As a key member of the team, you will contribute to the 24/7-365 days operations of the Security Section, playing an integral role in the prevention and detection of crime and responding to a wide range of incidents across the estate.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing exceptional security services from the University Security Control Centre.
2. Conducting proactive foot and vehicle patrols across the University estate.
3. Responding promptly and professionally to alarms, incidents, and non-emergency situations.
4. Acting as a key team member in the prevention and management of security-related incidents.
5. Ensuring the effective operation of security services and contributing to the safety and security of all University buildings.
6. Collaborating with University departments, Colleges, and external partners to maintain a secure environment.
The ideal candidate will be courteous, friendly, and professional, with a flexible approach to work. They will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, maintaining composure and calm in challenging situations. While previous experience in security operations is desirable, it is not essential; however, experience in a customer-facing role would be advantageous. A full, clean driving licence is required, as the role involves driving University vehicles.
