We are seeking a dedicated SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Stockport. This long-term role involves providing tailored support to secondary-aged pupils working at primary levels due to their additional needs.
SEND Support Assistant Role
As a SEND Support Assistant, you will:
1. Provide 1:1 and group support to students with complex needs, ensuring their learning and well-being are prioritised.
2. Work closely with the class teacher to implement individualised education plans (IEPs).
3. Assist in delivering engaging and differentiated activities suited to pupils’ needs and abilities.
4. Use strategies to support communication, such as Makaton, PECs, or similar methods (training provided if needed).
5. Help create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment to foster pupils' social, emotional, and academic development.
6. Provide support during break times and transitions to ensure students feel safe and supported throughout the day.
SEND Support Assistant Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who:
1. Has experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with complex needs.
2. Is empathetic, patient, and passionate about supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
3. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Is proactive, adaptable, and works well as part of a team.
5. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are desirable but not essential.
