The Role
We are looking for a versatile and skilled Prison Vocational Cover Tutor to deliver hands-on instruction across various vocational subjects, including Barbering, Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying, Multi-Skills Construction, Plumbing, Barista Training, and Painting & Decorating. This role ensures continuity of learning in the absence of primary instructors due to sickness, leave, or other cover needs. The ideal candidate will emphasise practical skills, promote employability, and integrate literacy and digital competencies, all within a framework of safety and restorative practices.

Qualifications: Maths and English Level 2, vocational qualifications, PTLLSAETCET teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards)
Experience: Practical experience in vocational trades; teaching experience preferred

Key Responsibilities:
Practical Vocational Instruction: Deliver engaging, hands-on lessons across multiple vocational areas, adapting to learner needs and covering for regular tutors to ensure consistency.
Employability and Digital Skills: Highlight employability skills like teamwork, communication, and professionalism, and integrate digital literacy relevant to each trade, such as digital inventory tracking.
Tool and Safety Management: Conduct daily tool and equipment checks, adhere to secure management protocols, and prioritise health and safety in each session.
Support Diverse Learning Needs: Adjust teaching methods to support learners of all skill levels, including those with low literacy or neurodiverse needs.
Restorative and Motivational Approaches: Foster a positive, respectful environment using restorative practices to encourage personal responsibility, participation, and reflection.
Progress Tracking and Quality Standards: Monitor learner progress, set clear project standards, and provide feedback to guide learners toward certification where applicable.
Collaboration and Employability Passport: Work closely with colleagues, support staff, and Work & Skills Coaches to support the Employability Passport, tracking skills and achievements.
What You Bring:
Relevant vocational qualifications or extensive hands-on experience in fields such as Carpentry, Plumbing, or Barbering, and a commitment to adaptive, inclusive teaching.
A recognised teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, CET) or willingness to achieve one.
Strong organisational and safety skills, with the ability to maintain secure, compliant environments.
