If you can’t find anything you like you at the moment – register now, then check back soon – new opportunities are added all the time! **What we are doing!**We launched The Lisburn and Castlereagh Journey to Sustainability in May 2022. A major element of this is ***The Big Tree Project*** which will aim to address the significantly low amount of tree cover the Lisburn and Castlereagh Council area.The Lisburn and Castlereagh Parks and Amenities team have propagated 75,000 trees to date and aim to produce a total of 250,000 over the next 3 years. A significant number of trees produced will be planted within the beautiful parks and open spaces across the Council area, as urban/ rural woodlands and as trees outside the woodland setting. The Parks and Amenities team will also address supply chain issues producing trees that will be planted across Northern Ireland.This role would particularly suit groups of volunteers such as:Families (children must be accompanied by a responsible adult)Community Groups/ChurchesCorporates volunteers or businesses**How you can help**There are many *treemendous* ways you can get involved!· The Parks and Amenities team have developed a native tree nursery where folk can assist the team propagate and maintain all of these new tree seedlings.· Folk can also assist the team in the removal of invasive species from our woodland areas. This will address biodiversity decline within fragmented habitats whilst enhancing woodland understories.· Finally we require people to help us identify and document ancient woodland within the Lisburn and Castlereagh area so that it can be protected. Ancient woodland takes hundreds of years to establish and is important for wildlife, soils, carbon capture and storage, recreation, health and wellbeing.**Tasks and responsibilities*** Assist the Parks and Amenities team propagate and maintain all new tree seedlings* Removal of invasive species from woodland areas* Identify and document ancient woodland with the Council area* Have fun and meet new people in a safe and environmentally conscious atmosphereSkills and experience gained Biodiversity Audit Carbon Footprint Community Development Decision Making Environmental Education Gardening/Grounds Maintenance Habitat Clean-up/Restoration Landscaping Pollution Prevention Teamwork Causes supported Community Environment Health Homeless Migrant Support Older People Young People
