Introduction We are looking for a Senior RF Electronics Engineer to join our world class multidisciplinary team to help solve complex technical challenges across a broad range of industries. The role At Cambridge Consultants we help our clients develop breakthrough technology across a broad range of industries: Energy and Industry Defence and Security Consumer Telecoms Healthcare Biotechnology As a Senior Electronics Engineer with an RF focus you will work with multi-disciplinary project teams to own and solve the electronics aspects of complex technical challenges for a variety of clients, from start-ups to established multinational organizations and government entities. You will initially establish yourself as a safe pair of hands delivering electronics designs. While some of your work will involve general-purpose electronics design, you will also be a key specialist for RF design projects. We will provide the time and support needed to acquire additional specialist skills, such as antenna design, the use of tools such as CST or HFSS, Microwave Office, Keysight ADS, design-for, testing and debugging of EMC, and the use of our Altium PCB design tools alongside our dedicated ECAD specialists. We are keen to support the development of our employees, and as such offer an extensive inhouse training program. As you advance within the organisation there will be plenty of opportunities for you to develop your technical skills and specialism, take on more leadership responsibilities and/or focus more on supporting the development of sales opportunities. What will you be doing? Some interesting high-speed electronics challenges that we’ve previously solved include: Overcoming smart meter challenges for the last 5% by developing a custom ZigBee to Long-Range Radio Bridge Design of a low-power, high-performance smart wearable for Accesso integrating multiple radios Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres Developing the Iridium Extreme satellite phone, the first truly-global ‘push-to-talk’ mobile communications system Next-generation Explosive Ordnance Disposal for the British Army Every project we do is different – we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge. You will also have access to our extensive in-house facilities. Should you attend a face-to-face interview, we’ll provide a tour of our labs which support hardware development engineering during your visit. These include: Prototype PCB manufacturing facilities, including SMT pick-and-place, vapour-phase reflow and x-ray inspection EMC emissions test facility 5GHz 360° antenna test facility 4 What can you bring? We are looking for someone with prior commercial work experience, but beyond that we can tailor the exact offer based on the amount of experience and capability demonstrated through our interview process. This is a client-facing role, so you will need to demonstrate great communications skills and a genuine passion for engineering The essential technical requirements are: Strong academic background with an electronics-related undergraduate degree Solid understanding of the fundamentals of electronic circuit design Specialist RF electronics design experience, such as RF LNAs, RF Power Amplifiers and associated circuits Experience of low-noise DC switched-mode power-supply (SMPS) design Hands on lab experience owning the structured bring-up and test of your board designs using test equipment such as vector network analysers (VNAs), spectrum analysers and signal generators. Due to the nature of some of our key projects, you must be eligible for UK security clearance to be considered for this role.
