Senior Safety Management Specialists
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston, but there is scope to occasionally work for home.
Package: £37,860 - £65,000 per annum (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)
A relocation package may be available (terms and conditions apply).

Let us introduce the role
AWE is currently recruiting for a Senior Safety Management Specialist, for the Surety Engineering Group, to help develop, implement, sustain and optimise the Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE).
Key accountabilities and responsibilities
* Develop an integrated approach to safety and environmental management across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.
* Implementing the requirements within Defence Standard 00-56 (and Defence Acquisition Safety Management Systems (ASEMS)).
* Enhance and optimise formal risk management processes to identify hazards and assess and mitigate risk.
* Proactively engage with stakeholders to ensure the necessary organisational structures, accountabilities, policies and procedures are implemented.
* Develop and implement processes for safety and environmental performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
* Identify and implement the training, education and promotion required within the DNE SEMS.
* Support the development of an organisational culture that reflects the developed safety policy and objectives.
* Support external activities as required as part of the Outreach and Engineering Programme, i.e. through presentations to external conferences/symposia.

Who are we looking for?
We do need you to have the following:
* Honours Degree (or equivalent) in science, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent level of experience.
* Experience working within a regulated industry with a thriving Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS).
* Knowledge or experience of Defence Standard 00-56 (and Defence Acquisition Safety Management Systems (ASEMS)).
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:
* Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
* Experience in writing reports and delivering presentations.
* Possess the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment, and be able to manage your own workload.
