This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team of Knox Academy with a remit of responsibility for Meadowpark Social Communication Provision, as Acting Depute Head Teacher. Meadowpark was established in 2015 and currently accommodates around fifty-five young people. The building was renovated to high standards and allows for light, space and flexibility of rooms which includes: soft play, sensory, common room, life skills flat and art & music therapy rooms. Meadowpark is set within generous grounds offering four large outside areas, access to nearby Neilson Park, Aubigny Sports Centre, cycle trails and the River Tyne for kayaking. Our young people in Meadowpark are encouraged to attend mainstream classes in nearby Knox Academy according to their needs and interests and with collaboration between staff from the two campuses. We have high aspirations for our young people’s attainment and achievement and track and monitor their progress carefully. We work closely with partners to ensure that young people are equipped with the skills required to support a positive and sustained post school destination. Through our approaches to GIRFEC and the associated Child Planning Framework, we are attuned to the needs of our young people to ensure they reach their full potential. Our relationships with our young people, their families and the wider team of professionals, around the child, are key to ensuring this success. School staff work closely with Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapy, CAMHS, Children’s Services and third sector partners. In addition to the responsibility for leading Meadowpark, the Depute Head Teacher will also be a key member of the local authority’s Education Resource Group. The decision to provide a placement in a specialist provision for a child or young person is taken by this group. Meadowpark is ideally placed for an experienced ASN practitioner to take staff and our young people on to the next phase of an exciting and rewarding journey. Job Details The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.
