The vascular ultrasound team at the Royal Derby Hospital are looking to employ an SVT Accredited Clinical Vascular Scientist (AVS). This opportunity is for a Vascular Scientist to join our friendly and dynamic vascular ultrasound team. The vascular service supports a range of healthcare professionals across surgery, medicine and diagnostics.
This opportunity is for a Vascular Scientist to join our friendly and dynamic vascular ultrasound team. Within the Vascular Service you will work with 9 Vascular Consultant Surgeons and 3 Specialist Vascular Nurses. The Vascular Ultrasound Lab at present sits within a friendly multidisciplinary department that includes Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastric and Neurophysiology.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to perform a wide range of vascular investigations, including carotid and temporal artery scans, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex scans, AAA and graft surveillance scans. Non-imaging tests such as ABPI are also performed. In addition, you will also be expected to provide teaching, audit, supervisory and managerial support. We actively encourage continuous professional development.
The vascular ultrasound service is expanding to provide vascular imaging services to other hospitals within the Trust, so may involve cross-site working. This post will also involve some weekend on-call work on a rota basis, providing imaging for the 7 day-a-week TIA service.

* Post graduate qualification in vascular ultrasound, AVS accreditation or equivalent experience.
* Significant post graduate experience as Vascular sonographer.
* Extensive knowledge and experience in performing a broad range of vascular investigation.
* Evidence of leading a small team.
* Accreditation in ILS.
Analytical Skills
* Competent in analysing interpreting and reporting on highly complex specialist vascular investigations.
* Able to sign off own reports.
* Ability to audit other physiologists'/health care scientist reports.
* Previous experience in training others in vascular ultrasound.
Communication
* Evidence of excellent communication skills patients/staff/colleagues/GP/doctors.
* Education and training skills with experience of training and assessment.
