The post of Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (MME) is a multi-skilled role with a bias towards mechanical and plumbing systems. The post holder will support the existing estates team with mechanical planned/reactive maintenance to domestic hot and cold water systems (including TMV/Shower service, small pipework installations, disinfection, flushing, assistance with biological monitoring, temperature monitoring, heating, improvements to existing water systems, removal of dead legs, and provide technical assistance, working closely with other trades such as Building and Electrical).
The post holder will also be expected to use CAFM (computer-aided facility management software).

* Reactive maintenance of mechanical/plumbing systems

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Carry out Mechanical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices.
2. Fault diagnosis and repairs to the hospital's mechanical installations and plant, including ventilation, heating, air conditioning, and water systems.
3. Overhaul, service, renovate, repair or replace worn, failed or damaged mechanical plant and installation/system components.
4. Carry out necessary mechanical engineering tests or measurements, in compliance with accepted standards.
5. Become familiar with and when adequately trained carry out basic electrical control operations and calibrations associated with all types of plant.
6. Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and ensure completion of all necessary documentation.
7. Where instructed, install and test new mechanical installations in accordance with current standards.
8. Record work information as required for operation of the CAFM system.
9. Wear the appropriate protective clothing and footwear as required by the Trust.
10. Assist in the upkeep of a small mechanical material store and identify and order components as necessary.
11. Be prepared to work at short notice, out of normal hours, in emergency situations.
Person specification
Education/Qualification
* Basic education to GCSE/’O’ Level in Maths and English or post-secondary education in a relevant field.
* City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in Plumbing & Heating/Mechanical discipline, or equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3.
* Welding Certificate C&G 3268 (all types and levels 1,2,3).
Experience & Knowledge
* Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in the relevant post bias for a minimum of 3 years.
* At least 5 years post-training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility.
* Experience of Water Safety engineering maintenance/repair (ACOP L8/HSG 274 Legionella compliance) and HVAC systems & equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and schematics.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation, safe systems of work (Permits) and relevant HTM’s.
