SLA Marketing and Communications Officer

The Marketing and Communications position at the SLA will support us in continuing to deliver crucial support to our members and will enable us to advocate more effectively to ensure school libraries remain a vital part of every school. We are looking for someone with sparkling writing skills, imagination, and creative ideas to bring our regular communications and social media content to life. We need somebody who can write efficiently and persuasively for a variety of audiences and support our membership team to ensure the external profile of the organisation is professional and consistent. We are a small but incredibly effective team, passionate about the cause, working tirelessly for change. This means we support each other with workload and tasks to ensure we are providing the best opportunities and service to the SLA members.
Duties include:
* Supporting the creation and distribution of e-newsletters to supporters, with the office team.
* Copy writing, proofing, tone of voice checks across marketing materials.
* Monitoring and recording weekly/monthly KPIs for external communications and presenting to team.
* Developing and implementing SLA Branding and Style Guidelines; being brand champion across all elements of work.
* Having a clear understanding of GDPR obligations.
* Supporting with the production and dissemination of key publications which include The School Librarian, the Annual Review, membership updates, and liaising with printers, agencies and other third parties as necessary.
* Supporting membership officer with recruitment and retention communications materials.
* Creating eye-catching, imaginative campaigns that work across owned and earned channels, to highlight the importance of school libraries, attract new members and corporate support.
* Collecting case studies, photographs, and video content to support external communications.
To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate:
* Experience working in a communications role or experience building an audience.
* Social media management with an understanding of digital marketing and SEO.
* Excellent writing and communication skills.
* Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities.
* Experience in writing press briefings and releases and some media management skills are desirable.
* A good level of IT knowledge and skills.
* Experience or a willingness to learn how to use IMIS our Customer Relationship Management system.
* An interest in school libraries and their place in the education sector.
* An ability to use Canva proficiently or a great eye for design would be a bonus.
The salary for this position is £29,000 for full time, 37 hours, and comes with a 6% employer pension contribution. We have worked out that duties for this role would take around 37 hours per week but are open to discussing job shares, flexible working, condensing hours or proposing an arrangement that we haven’t even thought of yet.
