The post-holder will support the GPs smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient. The successful individual will perform clinical observations and skills on patients, under direction from the GP.
Main duties of the job
Reviewing and coding of clinical correspondence and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions required.
Signposting correspondence to others members of the team such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Arranging appointments, referrals, letters, tests and follow up appointments for patients
Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs, phlebotomy & vaccinations within competences (following adequate training).
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc in line with GPA Competency Framework 2
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)

Qualifications
Essential
1. English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)
Desirable
2. HCA Training or equivalent in own field.
3. Practice receptionist training
4. Care Certificate
5. NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care
Experience
Essential
6. Can carry out clinical, technical, scientific, or administrative duties according to established protocols or procedures, or systems of work.
7. Ability to work well under pressure
8. Strong organisational skills
9. IT literate
10. Willingness to work flexibly potentially across multiple sites
11. Good understanding of the importance of confidentiality
12. Demonstrates basic factual knowledge of field of work
13. Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills

14. Previous experience of working in Primary Care/ or similar NHS setting
