This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic clinician to help deliver high quality care for Cardiology patients under the care of University of Leicester NHS Trust while sub-specialising in cardiac imaging.
The purpose of this post is to offer comprehensive training in cardiac imaging, with a particular emphasis on advanced echo, TOE (including interventional echo/TOE), and MRI. There may be opportunities for Cardiac CT training if desired.
The appointee will be strongly encouraged to take part in focused imaging research for which there are ample opportunities. Candidates with a strong research interest are encouraged to apply and the post may be extended with protected research time subject to further funding from the Leicester BHF Centre of Research Excellence.
This is a 12 months fixed term contract renewable for up to a further 12 months.
Full GMC registration with a licence to practice is required.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited to join the University Hospitals of Leicester as a Fellow in Cardiac Imaging. The post would be suitable for trainees who have already completed core training (at least 3 years of General Cardiology) and wish to sub-specialize in Cardiac Imaging. Ideally the candidate would already have some experience in Cardiac Cardiology. It may be undertaken by trainees who are already in a training post (as part of an 'out of programme experience')/ a post-CCT Fellowship.
The post is based at the Glenfield Hospital. Glenfield is a modern tertiary cardiac centre. There are 4 cardiac theatres, 5 catheter laboratories (3 intervention, 1 pacing and 1 EP), state of the art non-invasive imaging facilities including cardiac CT, MRI and state of the art echocardiography. The unit provides high volume comprehensive services in coronary and structural intervention, cardiac imaging, pacing, electrophysiology, heart failure, acute general cardiology, and is a very strong research portfolio.
Job responsibilities
It is anticipated that the fellow will work under the direct supervision of the imaging cardiology consultants for the duration of the appointment in order to get broad exposure to a variety of complex cardiac imaging. The majority of the week will be spent undertaking diagnostic testing (4-6 sessions per week). There will be no regular ward commitment, but it may be that at times other duties will include the care of in-patients. The fellow will be expected to do 1 out-patient clinic per week. The opportunity to join the registrar on-call rota may be available, but is not mandatory.
Opportunities will be dependent on the fellow's level of experience and can be tailored to their interests.
