About this client/child: Frankie is 8 years old and lives at home with Mum, Dad, and his two younger sisters! Frankie is a real character; he is an engaging, sociable, happy, and determined chap who strives for his independence. He leads a busy life and has a long list of hobbies and interests. He loves playing games, story times, music, and nursery rhymes, watching the footie with Dad, going for walks…the list goes on, and on! Frankie has epilepsy and quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which affects his cognitive and physical abilities. He uses Eye Gaze Technology and PECs to support his communication. He is a wheelchair user and receives his fluid, nutrition (blended diet), and medication via a mini button PEG. Recently Frankie underwent surgery for a ITB Pump to be fitted to help with his muscle spasms / dystonia; this has already made a huge improvement. He is supported on a 2:1 and 1:1 basis by his dedicated care team, providing around the clock support.
Overview of role: Frankie attends school 4 days per week, and his SEN Support Workers provide 2:1 care to him during his school day, to enable and facilitate Frankie’s learning and access to education, socialise with his peers, and participate in activities. He has an extensive therapy programme in place to support his rehabilitation (SLT, Physio, Dramatherapy, OT etc.) with training provided by his MDT. His programmes are implemented by his care team in a fun, imaginative, and creative way throughout his week. As mentioned, he leads a busy life, with regular appointments, planned activities, events, etc, and your role will be to support him with all this, along with his daily needs. We need an SEN Support Worker who is dedicated to Frankie’s development, supporting, and encouraging him to reach his full potential whilst continually promoting his independence. This position involves lots of play and interaction. Frankie is reliant on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs and you will receive full training in all aspects of his care plan.
Days and hours:
Week 1 Friday and Saturday, 08.00 am to 8.00 pm
Week 2 Thursday and Saturday 08.00 am to 8.00 pm
Week 3 Friday and Saturday 08.00 am to 8.00 pm
Week 4 Saturday 08.00 am to 8.00 pm
What’s great about this job: Supporting Frankie and having the opportunity to work with him is of course the best part of this role, however, his parents and MDT are extremely supportive and invest in Frankie’s care team to continually upskill and provide excellent training opportunities.
