Job summary Swanwick Lodge Health and Wellbeing Team are looking for an energetic and motivated Assistant Psychologist who is passionate about working with vulnerable young people. It is a Band 5 development opportunity. The role is dynamic and offers a scope to make a real difference to young people at what is often a crucial turning point in their lives. As part of the team, you will be involved in the implementation of a developmentally and trauma informed model of care, Trauma Recovery Model, for which you will receive additional training. Swanwick Lodge has adopted this model of care to use within the framework of SECURE STAIRS. The implementation of SECURE STAIRS represents a new way of working, with associated culture change and opportunities for shaping service delivery. Swanwick Lodge provides welfare placements for young people aged 10 17 years old who are a risk to themselves and/or others and are detained under Section 25 of the Children Act 1989. Swanwick Lodge is a secure children's home that provides a safe and child centred environment, in which children and young people can begin to stabilise, feel safe again and build trusting therapeutic relationships with the staff who are supporting them. Young People can then work with professionals to address some of the issues that may have led to their placement at Swanwick Lodge. Main duties of the job The principal purpose of the role is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of young people and care staff at Swanwick Lodge. This will be achieved in this post by: Providing a Psychology and Psychological Therapies service to individuals Implementing specific assessment, clinical care and psychological interventions and providing advice and consultancy to young people, family members, carers social care staff and multiagency professionals under the supervision and management of a clinical psychologist. The post holder will be supported by senior colleagues. The post holder will be expected to make good use of the expertise of others within the service to further develop their clinical skills with this client group. To work independently within a defined managed and occupational context. To work within professional guidelines and Trust procedures and protocols.
