Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Financial Accountant ensures that procedures and practices are being followed in accordance with company policy, accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS) and contractual obligations. The role includes the review of general accounting and bookkeeping required to compile a complete and accurate trial balance used to prepare internal financial statements. In addition, this position will include activities such as responsibility for the preparation of account analysis and audit schedules, calculation, review and posting of accruals and prepayments, payroll and vacation related entries and overseeing property and equipment account maintenance. The role will ideally suit someone with broad accounting experience working in a multi-national company with multiple currencies.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Complete weekly and monthly bank reconciliations for accounts held in multiple currencies;
* Prepare and post month-end related journal entries necessary to properly record month-end related transactions including reversal of prior month-end entries as required;
* Review and post automatic recurring journal entries as needed, such as revenue and revaluation journals;
* Maintain account analysis to support the activity in selected general ledger accounts as documented in the Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual. Record any related adjusting entries necessary to reconcile such analysis to the general ledger control accounts;
* Reconcile subsidiary detail to the control account for all general ledger accounts which maintain a subsidiary, including reconciliation to the corresponding supporting schedules (e.g., amortization schedule);
* Review departmentalization of the trial balance to ensure conformance with Company policies;
* Perform monthly analysis of Income Statement account balances against budget and provide detailed insight;
* Review reconciliation of inter-company accounts;
* Review foreign currency exchange transactions;
* Resolution of account discrepancies and irregularities with the relevant internal stakeholders;
* Process monthly and month-end related reports used in the monthly financial reporting packages;
* Preparation of year-end audit schedules as needed; and
* Perform related work as assigned.
Property and Equipment Recordkeeping
* Maintain fixed asset record keeping system;
* Reconcile fixed asset balances to the applicable general ledger accounts;
* Coordinate physical inventories of the Company's property and equipment;
* Generate depreciation schedules as needed; and
* Coordinate annual personal property tax returns with external accountants to include submission of property listings, review and approve the returns, and facilitate the payments to the taxing authorities.
Payroll and Vacation Related Entries
* Review payroll related reports to ensure correct allocation of expenses;
* Create and post related journal entries as required;
* Maintain related accrual and prepayment schedules, including any research and resolution of discrepancies; and
* Calculate and review employee vacation accruals.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
* A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related subject and a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience. (required)
* Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) qualification (or currently pursuing). (preferred)
* Current or prior Chartered Accountancy experience in a medium or large practice or large private firm. (preferred)
* Possess a strong working knowledge of accounting principles, (GAAP/IFRS).
* Working knowledge of mid-tier or higher accounting software and Microsoft Office. (required)
* Experience with project accounting systems and building database queries. (preferred)
* Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, government regulations, correspondence, and memos. (required)
* Ability to write complex correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations. (required)
* Ability to understand advanced accounting principles, financial data, business plans, budget analysis, and financial reporting regulations. (required)
* Experience of accounting in multiple currencies and supporting multiple country stakeholders. (preferred)
* Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, demonstrate accuracy, pay attention to detail and meet strict deadlines.
* Fluent in English - second European language would be an advantage.
