An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to work within the Kirklees Admiral Nurse team on a part-time basis (23.5 hours per week).
The successful applicant will be employed by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, but the Admiral Nurse model and name is the brand of charity Dementia UK and as such we work in partnership with them.
The charity supports the provision of specialist dementia care for family, carers and people with dementia and has devised the concept of Admiral Nursing for this purpose. It supports the development of Admiral Nurses by providing access to professional and practice development, clinical supervision and a competency framework to promote and maintain excellent standards and specialist skills.

Main duties of the job
Admiral Nurses are Registered Mental Health Nurses whose hallmark is their specialism in dementia care. They work alongside family carers and people living with dementia, in varied community settings.
Working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, Admiral Nurses seek to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers. They use a range of interventions that help people live positively with the condition and develop skills to improve communication and maintain relationships.
There will be a mandatory requirement to study for and successfully complete the relevant post-graduate course for the successful candidate.
This post provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative practitioner. You will develop your nursing practice within a community setting and build upon your experience of working in an expanding area of mental health nursing. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as within a team.

The Admiral Nurse team has been established as a partnership between Kirklees Local Authority, NHS Kirklees and South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Dementia UK.
Admiral Nurses are specialist mental health nurses working in the field of dementia. They work primarily with carers and supporters of people with dementia and offer consultancy to professionals providing care for people with dementia. The education and development work undertaken by Admiral Nurses focuses on improving dementia services for all stakeholders.
1. To provide specialist nursing assessment, evidence based intervention, advice and support for family carers of people with dementia and where appropriate people with dementia themselves, at all stages including bereavement.
2. To offer expertise and guidance to professional colleagues, the general public and others in supporting family and relationship-centred approaches and best practice in dementia care.
3. To assist with the development, evaluation and audit of this specialist area of practice and of the service.
4. To provide clinical advice, support, liaison, education and training to other staff/agencies.
5. To use the Admiral Nurse competency framework to support the development of own Admiral Nursing practice.
6. To participate in, make effective use of and provide clinical supervision in negotiated circumstances.
7. Admiral Nurses are competent practitioners. They are able to demonstrate acquisition and performance of necessary professional characteristics, to an agreed standard over the range of their practice, as detailed in the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
The person appointed to the post of Admiral Nurse will be employed by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and line managed by the Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead.
The post-holder will join the national network of Admiral Nurses and will benefit from the practice development framework for Admiral Nursing provided by Dementia UK. This comprises education, training and development, clinical supervision, and support with research, evaluation and audit.
