Analyst - Energy, AFRY Management Consulting
AFRY Management Consulting is expanding services in Australia. We are therefore looking for Analysts (Australian citizens or permanent residents) interested in being part of a small but rapidly growing team. The role will be based in our Melbourne office.
About the role
As a new colleague on entry level, you are responsible for undertaking analysis into energy markets and will support AFRY’s consulting activities for a wide range of clients including major financial investors, international developers, utilities, government, and regulatory bodies. You will be part of project teams to support our clients in answering the commercial and strategy challenges they face and will perform tasks under the direction of Project Managers and Project Supervisors.
Our growing Australian team specialises in all aspects of the Australian energy transition. Our projects relate to the energy sector and all aspects of the energy transition in the Australian market. Typical projects focus on power market modelling; energy technology cost analysis and projections; assessments of energy markets, policies, and regulations; developing new techniques for projecting market prices, technology adoption, and energy sector evolution; strategic and commercial advice; and market/commercial due diligence related to energy sector transactions.
Primary responsibilities
* You will help develop and execute electricity market models used for projecting long term market dispatch and prices in the Australia power markets (e.g., National Electricity Market, South West Interconnected System) including, but not limited to, preparing forecasts of supply and demand, detailed research on power plant parameters and market policy review, with guidance from senior team members.
* You will conduct research on a range of energy topics (e.g., energy markets, renewable technologies, energy regulatory and policy), perform business and commercial assessments, and derive inputs for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
* You will contribute to proposals and other sales material where necessary.
* You will work within the Australian market and Australian clients, and also international clients with an interest in the Australian market. You will also be expected to collaborate with other AFRY offices around the world to support both the business and your own development.
* As your knowledge and capability grow, you will contribute to report and slide-based deliverables, and present these to clients.
* Comply with AFRY’s Code of Conduct and other policies.
Qualifications
* No prior experience in the energy industry is needed – but Analysts must show a strong interest in management consulting and energy. If you have an understanding of Australian energy market dynamics (including any experience with market models, market analytics, or energy market modelling software or tools) and energy regulatory environment and policy, this is a definite advantage.
* Our new joiners typically are university graduates and may bring some initial work experience (up to 1-2 years) and often have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Engineering or have relevant experience working for a company in the power industry.
* We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical – so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and strong analytical and numerical skills (as demonstrated through e.g. degree results, academic projects/theses, etc.). This includes the ability to pay attention to detail and use MS Excel proficiently. Coding skills, e.g. Python, MS SQL or VBA, are an advantage.
* Report-writing is a core part of our work and so we are also looking for the ability to write sections of reports in a clear and logical way, using both MS Word and PowerPoint.
* Virtually all the work we do requires teamwork, so if you have good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work well with others within a project team and wider office environment you will fit in well.
* You will be required to work in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, so you will need to be able to think for yourself, be pro-active, be a self-starter, and have a business-oriented mindset.
We offer a competitive salary and a performance-related bonus scheme in a friendly international working environment with a wide variety of interesting and challenging projects.
If you want to contribute to the energy transition while helping drive our consulting business, please apply by providing a CV and cover letter stating why you want to work for AFRY and your salary expectations.
We only accept online applications from candidates who have full working rights in Australia. Please provide this information in your cover letter, CV or via mail.
If we think you could be a good fit for the organisation, you will be invited to an interview.
