EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join and lead on the PICU, Christopher ward. Christopher ward is a modern 10 bedded male PICU located at the Linden Centre, Chelmsford. The Unit provides expert, supportive, short term, individualised, intensive care for service users aged 18 to 65, resident in Essex, who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will be responsible for the care and management of all patients admitted to Christopher Ward until their transfer or discharge.
* Effective communication with GPs, CMHTs, fellow consultants, the pharmacy team, and other relevant stakeholders is essential.
* Support newly qualified consultants' continuing professional development.
* Full GMC registration and being on the Specialist Register is required.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide Clinical Leadership and responsible clinical duties for PICU team (10 beds).
* Ensure excellence in the provision of mental health assessments and evidence-based treatments.
* Provide input to service development and clinical governance.
* Supervise trainees.
* Participate in the on-call rota.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues in community and inpatient settings.
* Ensure appropriate documentation in relation to duties.
* Take Responsible Clinician responsibility for inpatients on the Christopher ward.
* Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of issues relating to mental and physical health.
Person specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register.
* Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
* Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.
* In good standing with GMC.

* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience.
* Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
