Job summary This is a locum post for a consultant in Infection (microbiology or microbiology and infectious diseases), employed by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to provide clinical infection services for the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) working within Severn Infection Sciences. This is a fixed term post (provisionally for 7 months) to provide cover for a consultant colleague on maternity leave. The successful applicant would join a team of four established consultants in infection. The post is currently funded to deliver 10PAs. Main duties of the job The post provides clinical infection services for UHBW, and the population in Bristol that they serve. University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust merged with the Weston Area NHS Health Trust, Weston General Hospital (WGH) in Weston Super-Mare, in April 2020 to create UHBW. Although WGH is a part of UHBW the provision of laboratory services and clinical infection advice is not currently the responsibility of the consultants based at the BRI. Out-of-hours the post holder would be expected to provide clinical support for both UHBW in Bristol and the microbiology services based at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) in Bath. The appointee will be expected to work within the facilities available to the Group and any new service developments are subject to the provision of necessary resources within the Trust. There is an active appraisal and development programme, and all consultant staff will take part in this process. The appointee will be required to live within a distance that allows safe discharge of all clinical commitments. The appointee will be expected to attend the hospital on Saturday and Sunday when on call for the weekend. An applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with the Trusts on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
