The principal role of the Budget Accountant is to assist the Divisional Support Accountant in providing financial and statistical information and support to Clinical Directorates and other hospital departments.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist the DSA to provide financial and statistical information and advice to Clinical Directorates and other hospital departments.
2. To assist in the production of accurate and timely budget statements each month and to assist in the annual budget-setting process for the Trust, including conducting routine and annual budget-setting meetings with holders of the smaller budgets.
3. To work with minimal supervision to prepare monthly accruals and prepayments for the teams directorates.
4. To investigate and reconcile specific balance sheet suspense accounts directly impacting on the Management Accounts Department.
5. To be responsible for the day to day administration of the Trust's In House Salary Sacrifice Lease Car Scheme, from quote to order processing.
6. To work with minimal supervision to perform various routine and ad hoc monthly tasks, including the requesting of funding from reserves, the balancing of those reserves, the reconciliation of reserves to recurrent budgets, the achievement and coding of savings.
7. To take an active part in raising invoices to external agencies, and to assist in tracking, coding and reconciling income.
8. To investigate and adjust invalid revenue code allocations and to assist in the maintenance and development of the financial coding system.
9. To investigate and adjust ledger discrepancies arising from direct transmissions from the NHS Supplies and Pharmacy computer systems and from the Payroll system.
10. To control and maintain the office filing system in liaison with the other Budget Accountants.
11. To undertake ad hoc projects and to assist in any other accounting areas as necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education
* AAT qualification or similar
Knowledge
* Extensive experience of computerised systems and other software packages eg. Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook
* Ability to manage own workload, and to work independently without supervision
* Experience gained in large, complex organisation, preferably an acute or foundation NHS Trust. Ideally this would include recent Financial Management experience
* Ability to analyse and present data in Excel using pivot tables etc
Skills
* Good verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to work as part of a team, providing support for colleagues as required
* Ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff including Trust executives, senior managers and clinical staff
* Flexible approach to working day and good timekeeping and attendance
