The job is based in Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport, a site of national, strategic importance on the waterfront of Plymouth, Devon. The Security Critical asset Manager is a challenging and rewarding role that supports the 1* Naval Base Commander (NBC) who is the Naval Base (NB) Responsible Person (RP), with the assurance that HMNB Devonport is compliant with the requirements of security policy. The position reports to a Grade 7 Civil Servant the Security Operations Deputy Head of Department
The role requires a strong level of understanding of security and business resilience principles, with most role specific objectives linked to the development of protection against the full range of threat vectors, targeted against personnel, assets (equipment, infrastructure, material) or information.
HMNB Devonport is a nuclear site and this post requires the successful candidate to support the Security Operations team in the protection of the nuclear material, assets and information on site. A working knowledge of nuclear material, assets and information in the MOD would be beneficial and will be tested as an Experience requirement at interview.
The job holder will work closely with the other Industry Partners on site to enable a coherent critical asset management programme and develop trusted links to engender a common approach to security standards.
The role requires a confident and capable communicator; security is a crucial area of delivery under constant external, senior level focus. The job holder can expect to be trusted to brief autonomously to MOD 1* level and, as the complex site hosts regular national and international VIP visitors, the post comes with a requirement to communicate confidently across the full range of guests.
Stakeholder engagement is a significant role of the Critical Asset Manager post and understanding the big picture in the delivery of national security and where local security fits into the whole is essential. The successful candidate can expect to travel across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and sites of the nuclear engineering community (under DG Nuclear teams) across the UK with occasional travel and overnight stays in Bristol, London, Clyde and Portsmouth.
The position has line management responsibility and will be expected to develop, manage and lead any reports effectively.
