Job overview
Join us at an exciting time in the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. We are looking for kind, caring, and committed individuals to join us, making a real difference to both our staff and patients.
Intensive Care offers an interesting, challenging, and rewarding specialism with opportunities to enhance your knowledge and clinical skills while providing excellent nursing care.
You will be working in our new modern 16-bed intensive care unit, which provides care for some of the sickest patients at the RUH, including those recovering from major surgery, heart attacks, strokes, or life-threatening infections such as sepsis.
This unit provides care for over 1,000 patients a year and is run by an experienced group of specialist doctors and nurses, supported by therapists, technicians, and support staff.
Our Clinical Healthcare Support Workers are integral to our nursing teams. It takes flexibility, commitment, and compassion, but in return, we can offer you a rewarding career where you can really make a difference and leave at the end of each shift feeling proud of the work you have done to support patients to feel their best.
Many of our Clinical Healthcare Support Workers have progressed to registered Nurses by taking the apprenticeship route while working at the RUH with full support from our team.
Our ICU is a 24-hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock; therefore, we work on a shift basis, and you are likely to be given day, night, and weekend shifts so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the very best care.
If you want to be part of our ICU team and help us provide care to critically ill patients, apply now; we want to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist in patient care and other ward-related duties under the supervision of a Registered nurse in ICU.
2. To carry out routine duties, including activities in which the post holder has been assessed as competent by a Registered Nurse.
3. To contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with nursing colleagues and all members of the multi-disciplinary team, and work in accordance with the Unit Philosophies and hospital policies at all times.
Working for our organisation
At the RUH, we put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.
We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. This can be seen in our growing community of staff networks – celebrating successes and creating opportunities to listen and learn. We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger.
A culture of learning, developing, and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.
We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!
